For many of us, declaring our majors and minors in university was not an easy decision. It could feel like we are locking ourselves into a career and a future that we could not foresee. We ponder whether or not we would like our careers, if we would be successful in them or if it would be a waste of time and set us back a few years! These life-altering decisions can be a lot of pressure for someone to handle, especially if they are dealing with self-doubt.
It is normal for someone to question their abilities when pursuing such significant events. By doing so means that they are critically thinking about their decisions. However, doubt can be detrimental when it instills a lack of self-confidence, which can be harmful to anybody. This type of behaviour is known as self-doubt and it can stall and hold someone back from making a productive decision due to fear and anxiety.
The reality is, that we can not accurately predict our future when it comes down to declaring majors and pursuing different careers. Unless you are certain that you do not want to enter a chosen career, you should give things a fair shot, even when you have doubts. You will never know how happy or successful you will be until you try it for yourself. If it doesn’t work out in the end, don’t fret! It is never too late to change, switch things up, or get up and try again!
